App developers are pushing the envelope on a daily basis trying to improve and enhance our smartphone and tablet experiences. In fact, so many Android apps come out every day that it’s difficult to keep track of them all. It’s difficult to usurp the best of the best but if you’re getting bored with what you’ve got and want to try something new, check out the best new Android apps from the last month! The best NEW Android apps from August 2021:

Adobe Connect

Price: Free / Various

Adobe Connect isn’t technically brand new. The app has existed for a while. This version was rebuilt from the ground up to be much better than the outgoing version. It’s basically Adobe’s competitor to Zoom. You can join audio or video conferences, share your screen, call in with a phone number if needed, and it has a chat. You can also do modern video conferencing stuff like raising your hand and all of that. This app is in early access beta so you can expect bugs if you try it. Here is the pricing for it if you decide you want to keep it after your trial.

IMDb TV

Price: Free

IMDb TV launched on both mobile (button below) and Android TV (Google Play). It’s a free streaming service supported by ads. You can watch various movies and TV shows free of charge. In addition to the stuff you can find on other streaming services, IMDb TV also has some original content. The content is pretty good and the streaming quality is fine. However, the app definitely needs some work. There is no search function that we could find and that’s a pretty big deal for a streaming app. We assume IMDb will fix it eventually, but it is something to be aware of.

Magnolia

Price: Free / $4.99-$6.99 per month

Magnolia is another new streaming app. This one is just for one channel and it’s, obviously, Magnolia. The app contains a bunch of shows from the network along with some original content, workshops, tutorial videos, and more. One of the charms of Magnolia is that you can buy products through the app that you might have seen in one of the TV shows. The app works well enough, but it could still use much of the same work as IMDb TV. The subscription price is reasonable enough for a single channel streaming app.

Moonbeam

Price: Free with in-app purchases

Moonbeam is a podcast discovery app. You open the app, tell it what topics you like, and the app shows you snippets from a bunch of podcasts about those topics. The app works exactly as intended with no issues on my end. The front page is a feed with podcast snippets that last only a couple of minutes. You can find something that sounds interesting and then you know where to find it to listen to it. It has just about every podcast you can find unless it has some weird exclusivity somewhere.

Notification Light for Pixel

Price: Free / Up to $4.99

Notification Light for Pixel is exactly what the app says it is. It adds a notification light to a few modern pixel devices. It works similarly to the popular IJP apps that do the same thing for Samsung devices. It works for the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 predominately, but the developer says it works on other pixels. The app uses the Always On Display to show a notification light. It can be just a dot, surround the pinhole camera, or as a bar that goes around the outside of the display. It works pretty well, but it is in early access beta so there are bugs.

OFTV

Price: Free / Varies

OFTV is the official app of Onlyfans. It lets you watch videos and other content from the service. The caveat is that it doesn’t show NSFW content. In fact, the whole service is going to remove NSFW content eventually anyway. If Tumblr was any indication, this is going to be a train wreck for the site. The app works okay, although to be honest, I’m not an Onlyfans user so I only tested it a little bit. A lot of people don’t like the app despite it working well enough. Given how many people use the app for NSFW content, it’s kind of easy to see why.

SwirlWalls

Price: Free / $4.99

SwirlWalls is a new wallpaper app. It features high-quality, animated wallpapers that come in a swirl pattern. You can even flick your phone to make the background move. Some other neat tricks are the app rendering the wallpaper at your phone’s native refresh rate, plenty of customization options, and configurable gestures. Otherwise, it’s a wallpaper app. All the designs look similar, but you can still find some unique looks overall. It’s a good app, especially if you want something a bit different and more interactive.

Uncomplicated Launcher

Price: Free / $2.49

Uncomplicated Launcher is a neat idea that could use a little extra work. It’s a very simple launcher for seniors and other non-tech savvy folks. It features large buttons for most of the phone’s most common uses, such as texting, calling, alarms, photos, and other things. You can still get to an app drawer for all your apps if you need it as well. The launcher also includes a few themes, accidental touch protection, and some other stuff as well. The only real bad part of this app is the design. The concept is good, but the buttons are ugly and some parts of the UI could be better. It has a lot of potential, especially for folks who can’t handle the complexity of modern technology.

Videoleap by Lightricks

Price: Free / $7.99 per month / $35.99 per year / $69.99 once

Videleap is a new video editing app. It boasts the ability to quickly put together high-resolution videos. The app uses the timeline editing style that is popular among other good video editing apps. It also has things like chroma key support, the ability to cut videos, non-destructive editing, and unlimited undo and redo support. That’s a pretty decent set of features for a video editing app. Some other stuff includes filters, special effects, color correction, audio support, and more. It costs a little bit less than Adobe Premiere Rush per month, but does have a single price tag for fans of premium apps as well. This one is actually pretty good.

Zenkit Projects

Price: Free / $10.99 per month+

Zenkit Projects is a competitor to apps like Asana, Basecamp 3, Trello, and other task management apps. It’s a lot bigger than a to-do list app and is mostly for businesses looking to keep track of their various goals and tasks. It supports a number of different methodologies and has things like an integrated calendar, the ability to see stats for things like hours worked, and other useful tools and analytics. There really is a lot here, a lot more than we could look at in a single week. We’re not entirely certain how well this competes with competitors, but it seems to tick all of the boxes to do so.
